Costco

Today I was introduced to Costco.
They sell everything you can imagine, in a big pack.
They even had King crab (my favourite) and wheelchairs (Jean's favourite).
It was very much like heaven, until I had to pay, and Jean crashed the trolley into the curb, and I spilled a third of my giant couscous tub on our kitchen floor.
It was still a very nice adventure.
Now I am going to prepare for a reunion with Dibs. This time it WILL happen.

This is the view from my window.
Chernobyl?
No, It's just the sparkling granite city.

Today is a day of fortune.
Walking down the five million steps from our flat (as I usually do at least twice a day), proved to be extremely rewarding this morning, as I had the most gorgeous little parcel awaiting me downstairs!
Attending uni also proved to be a delightful surprise (for once..). And when I got home, I had yet ANOTHER amazing parcel waiting for me! Unbelievable. As if this wasn't enough, I have fun-time with Emmo on the agenda for tonight. Too good to be true, you say? I haven't even mentioned the free lunch I got. First I need to do a little work. May have underestimated the quantity of that...

For Christmas, my darling siblings gave me this little baby.
I love it to bits, but frankly; it's been a bastard, causing me more pain than pleasure.
The film is expensive, developing the film is even more expensive and on top of it all, its incredibly unreliable. I have been experimenting wildly and the results have been so disappointing.
Until yesterday when I got my Paris film back!
Fair enough, half of the film had been damaged, but the photos that actually developed turned out so well!

You are wondering why I am not blogging. Well let me tell you, I am simply too busy. You know, living life, having fun, enjoying myself... NOT.

I am doing uni work (and some other stuff).
Like, ALL the time. I sleep less than six hours per night (well proud of that), and in the sleep deprived state I am in, I simply cannot work very fast.
It's all very logical.

Where did my life go?
Who am I?!

Three colour Jean.

This is Jean.

I also call her "Prostie", "Three colour Jean" and various other names, depending on the situation
Today is a marvellous day you know.
On this very day, an unknown amount of years ago, the world was given a splendid gift in the form of Jean.
If it wasn't for Jean, Uni would be a tad more boring.
The unofficial English dictionary would be missing a majority of important words.
And surveillance cameras in Paris would be excessive.

You all realise the importance of this day, yes?

For her birthday all Jean asked for was a Cabbage-fest. She loves her cabbage you see.
She already has a problem with her stomach so I figured this would be a bad idea (mainly with concern for her new flat mate). Instead, I will offer to cook her dinner. Jean, I am cooking you dinner. Call me. So, despite the lack of cabbage get-togethers, I hope she has the most delightful of birthdays and that she never stops being her jeanious self.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PROSTIE!

If today was my day?
ehm, not so much.

Now I am gonna take a deep breath, drink coffee as black as Hitler's conscience, and move on.

Who's the rabbit now?

It's the Chinese new year!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
And guess what?!
-It's MY year! The year of the rabbit (I happen to be a fire rabbit, how awesome??!)

Did some research and was DELIGHTED with my findings.
I am almost starting to suspect that the author of the Chinese astrology book happened to be born in the rabbit year too, it is almost too good to be true. Listen to this:

  • People born under the year of the Rabbit tend to be fortunately blessed
  • The Rabbit is one of the most fortunate of all the Chinese star signs
  • Rabbits are said to be elegant and kindly
  • The Rabbit is the symbol of long life
  • In business they do tend to be fortunate
  • The Rabbit gives sensible solid advice
  • Female Rabbits tend to be characterised by their extreme awesomeness and also make mindblowingly delicious pasta

Bring on the year of the Rabbit!

Funtaztic

We had the most superb meal, last night.
I really regret not taking any photos, because it looked as good as it tasted.
After dinner I was tricked into a night out, through false promises of a quiet private party.
I had already gotten used to the fact that nothing went as planned, so I just downed my shot and tagged along.
It of course turned out to be funtaztic!

Iascheschnoodeh.

Glen

Despite feeling perfectly fine today, I think it's time to give my liver a little holiday now.

no berries, my friend.

Today was supposed to be the gin night.
However it turned out to be the day where nothing went as planned.
Not saying it was a waste of a day, just that one has to be flexible.

Allow me to get a little side tracked; I was going to make a blueberry pie today but not one single shop on union street in Aberdeen sells frozen berries!
Can you believe it?! It's a scandal!
There are more frozen pizzas and Yorkshire puddings than you can imagine but not one SINGLE frozen berry!
In the last shop I contemplated laying down on the floor, crying in despair until someone rescued me from this berry-deprived city. Of course I never did. Instead I bought expensive apples and cursed them all way home.
I had also planned for a retake of the extremely successful gin-night. Not happening either.
Don't feel to sorry for me though; David and Anna are cooking up a Mexican storm in the kitchen and perhaps I will even go out afterwards.

Janis Flat warmin friday

Spent all day in studio, mainly drawing maps which was quite boring.
Friday night, I drank wine and went to Janis's flat warming party.
We played with fire and drank some more wine in martini glasses.

Today is Saturday and I am going to bake "knäckebröd", because I am loosing touch with my Swedish side.

Snails

I. ate. snails.
You heard me.
I actually had the warm, slimy, chewy little body of a snail resting on my tongue, then I chewed it and swallowed. An ACTUAL snail (four).
Thinking of it now, I almost puke a little in my mouth.

People around the world are starving, they are forced to eat anything remotely nutritious.
I want them to know I sympathise with them, that I understand what it is like.
I have been there, eating snails I mean.
Totally know what they are going through.
Don't want to make a big fuss about it. Just saying; I have also eaten snails.

and when I was looking for the snail evidence, I also found this image.
I think it beautifully captures how one can still be happy and find joy in the little things (like exercising on a fence), despite being at the snail-eating stage of life.
So to summarize; when life is a Bitch, find your happy fence.

My dog

Guess what?
Dibs never came.

There is a Swedish saying that goes like this; "It is difficult to teach old dogs to sit"
Applied to Dibs, one could add that the "dog" in this case is also figuratively blind, deaf and born with fused back legs, and therefore it will probably never EVER learn to sit.
However she is your dog and you love her, so all you can do is shake your head and accept the fact that your dog sometimes sucks.
I am not bitter.

And all of a sudden, from nowhere (Glasgow) Dibs appears

And all of a sudden, from nowhere (Glasgow) Dibs appears!!!!
I haven't seen her since September, and in the midst of silence (I was gonna write sorrow, but i'm not actually sad so it didn't feel right) I get a text from my crazy friend.
She is coming all the way to sleep on my couch (Only my couch is really short, so she will have to sleep on the floor but whatever).

Can you believe it?!

I almost can't.
In fact, I refuse to believe it, until she is actually here.
But I bought a bottle of wine just in case. In case it is required for a movie production or so...
One can never be too sure, and also, if you don't remember Dibs; see this.

Steak Tartare

Raw egg, raw meat.
Scary, yes. But oh so tasty.

Afterwards I felt guilty.
Like a vampire, just caught by her mother, eating the family dog...
I assured myself several times that it IS socially acceptable to eat raw meat.
It really is. (ps. no dog meat)

We were all very fascinated by this meal.
And also not quite sure how this ever became classified as such a sophisticated dish?
I would be the first one to admit its very.....
...Caveman..

However, really tasty.
Unless I am dead or seriously ill within a few hours, I will definitely make it again.
It's extremely fast to prepare = bonus.

Food week!

This is tha food week!
I have basically just dedicated it to funky food.

Last night I spent the most delightful evening, cooking mussels with the ladies @ Fountain Hall Rd.

Tonight David and Iain have agreed to finally eat steak tartare (It's raw meet) with me.
I am so excited about this!
Slightly scared, yes, but so excited.
